It’s nearly the official start to summer, which means we all have one thing on our minds…vacation!
For a lot of us, summer vacation comes with hitting the road or airports to get away with our families. As of 2019, over 100 million Americans took a trip throughout the year, with almost two-thirds of those trips during the summer season. And according to Tripit, over 80% of Americans took vacation last summer with over 95% planning on doing the same this year.
With all that in mind, this month’s Top 10 focuses on summer travel, eyeing in on the likely top US travel destinations to be visited over the next 3 months. To identify which cities made the list, we looked to our social audience insights platform to create an audience of parents and families interested in traveling. Here are the top 10 US cities and territories we anticipate are high on the list to be visited this summer:
Where are they going?
While this group doesn’t shy away from international travel, we stuck to the US cities and territories for our list this month:
1. Dallas, TX
It might be a bit of a shock to see Dallas this high on the list, but as the third largest city in Texas, there are plenty of activities for families of all ages. With one of the best zoos in the US and its rich western cultural ties, Dallas has a lot to offer.
2. Puerto Rico
Puerto Rico has been a tourist destination for nearly a century, and it’s pretty clear why. Even after the devastation it faced in 2017, the island has rebuilt and once again
has a thriving tourism sector and remains a top vacation destination for families.
3. Denver, CO
Boasting ‘300 days of sunshine’, the mile high city is the perfect balance of outdoor excitement and city life. With that in mind, it’s no wonder families flock there for their summer holidays.
4. Fort Lauderdale, FL
Looking for a relaxing beach vacay? With 24 miles of golden beaches, Fort Lauderdale is the place for you! Add to that a thriving restaurant scene and plenty of museums and shopping. Fort Lauderdale becomes a clear contender for your next adventure.
5. Las Vegas, NV
While typically seen as a destination for adults, don’t let that deter you from giving Las Vegas a shot. There are plenty of kid friendly things to do both within the city limits and outside, from checking out the Hoover dam to seeing a show on the strip, you’ll find what you need to keep your kiddos entertained.
6. Orlando, FL
You can’t think of a family vacation without thinking about Orlando. Between DisneyWorld and Universal Studios there is something for everyone in the family to enjoy.
7. New York City
The city that never sleeps is a clear choice for your next vacation. In a city so culturally diverse, you are bound to find any number of ways to make your next trip special.
8. Los Angeles, CA
If you weren’t surprised Orlando made the list, you probably aren’t shocked LA is here too. But LA has more to offer your family than just a convenient stopover on your way to Disneyland. Take a tour in one of LA’ major movie studios or let your kids’ imagination run wild at the Kidspace Children’s Museum.
9. Detroit, MI
You might now immediately think of Detroit when you are planning your summer trip, but you really should. Discover its rich history in their many cultural museums or spend the day getting creative at the Legoland Discovery Center.
10. Chicago, IL
Whether you hit the sandy shore of lake Michigan or spend your time at a museum (like the Museum of Ice Cream), there is plenty to do to keep your entire family entertained in Chicago for your next summer vacation.
The power of social audience insights
Social audience insights, unlike social listening or monitoring, look at the individuals behind the conversations and engagements across major social channels to discover an individual’s self-declared interests, passions, brand affinities, preferred media channels, trusted influencers and more. Marketers can leverage social audience data to identify specific audiences and then analyze their key interests and motivations to fuel any marketing campaign
